Rural organ transplant patients face a much greater financial burden than their urban counterparts due to travel, accommodation, and food costs associated with relocating to Vancouver.
Furthermore, Vancouver’s high-cost of living and low vacancy rate make this process extremely stressful for patients and families. This project aims to quantify the out-of-pocket cost incurred by patients during the transplant process through quantitative surveys and to understand the experience through qualitative interviews with patients.
