This study aims to collect perspectives on the future of xenotransplantation in Canada from those are involved kidney transplantation as patients, donors, family members or professionals.

Study results will lead to policy recommendations and will be presented to transplant professionals. 

Experience required

Eligible participants are adult (18+):

  • Kidney transplant recipients, kidney transplant candidates, living kidney donors, and family caregivers.
  • We are also recruiting professionals involved in kidney transplantation, organ procurement, and the ethics of research involving animals.

Potential roles for PFD Partners

  • Participation in this study involves a one-time interview, preceded by a short online sociodemographic survey and a brief recorded presentation of background information.
  • Participants can choose between an individual or collective (focus group) interview.
  • Individual interviews will last 40-60 minutes and can be done over the phone or video link at a time that suits the participant.
  • Focus group discussions will be held over the videoconferencing application Teams, at a time convenient to a majority of participants, and will last 90-120 minutes.

Qualitative interviews or focus group discussions will cover topics such as expectations, ethical concerns, acceptability and recommendations regarding xenotransplantation.
