Dr. Istvan Mucsi is recruiting a PhD-trained Senior Research Associate/Scientific Associate to provide day-to-day scientific leadership for his research group.

The successful candidate will oversee a portfolio of projects, lead manuscripts and grant applications, and supervise undergraduate and graduate students and research analysts, working with substantial independence and ongoing mentorship.

About the research program:

The research program focuses on kidney disease epidemiology, particularly in African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) communities and First Nations; access to kidney transplantation; cardiovascular complications in kidney disease; and outcomes research centred on equity-deserving communities. Other key areas include patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), including their validation, associations with outcomes, and implementation in clinical care, as well as health systems and implementation research. The team works with rich data resources, including administrative health data, and has an active publication pipeline.

This 2–3-year position, with the start date as soon as possible and the longer-term arrangement to be determined, offers genuine scientific independence, senior authorship and co-applicant opportunities, and a potential pathway toward a scientist-track appointment. It would suit a strong senior postdoctoral fellow or early-career researcher seeking a bridge to independence.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in epidemiology, health services research, or a related field, with strong independent writing skills, experience in observational and administrative data analysis, and an interest in mentoring junior researchers. Experience with PROMs, ICES data, health equity research, or CIHR grant writing would be a particular asset.
