National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week – Advancing Donation Policy
National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week highlights the importance of building strong, ethical, and effective systems that support donation and transplantation. One step in this direction is the International Donation and Transplantation Legislative and Policy Forum—an initiative co-hosted by the Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program (CDTRP) and Transplant Québec.
Through a collaborative process, the Forum generated 94 evidence-informed recommendations designed to guide legislative and policy reform in jurisdictions at any stage of OTDT system development.
Turning Evidence into Action to Advance Donation Policy
CDTRP has already utilized the Forum’s recommendations to support knowledge translation and policy development, including the development of fact sheets on Mandatory Referral, Public Reporting, and Consent Models, which were shared during Alberta’s legislative debate on Bill 205. This work exemplifies how international collaboration can fuel local impact—turning theory into real-world change.
Help Steer the Development of International Donation and Transplantation Legislative and Policy Forum Fact Sheets
With support from a Canadian Institutes of Health Research Planning and Dissemination Grant, CDTRP is now seeking community and professional input to identify which recommendations are most relevant to the Canadian OTDT community in order to develop educational materials. Fast Facts which will provide a comprehensive overview of key recommendations identified through this consensus process.
We invite you to complete this survey and share your insights on the topics that would be most beneficial to your work by April 25, 2025.
