Online Survey – A mixed methods study of stakeholders’ perspective on ethical and logistical issues related to advance living donation in kidney transplantation in Canada
Living donor kidney transplantation is the preferred strategy for end stage renal disease patients. Prior to the launch of the Kidney Paired Donation (KPD) program in Canada in 2009, the living donor had to be compatible with the transplant candidate. KPD circumvents this incompatibility obstacle by matching a donor who is incompatible with their transplant candidate with a different transplant candidate who is also incompatible with their donor. Recently, the US developed an advanced donation program, using or not kidney vouchers. This program allows the living donors to donate at the most appropriate moment for them and ensure that the potential kidney recipient receives a living kidney when he or she will need it. This new type of living donation raises numerous issues and questions.
