New Trainee Co-Lead: Daniela Massierer
The CDTRP Education and Training Platform is pleased to announce its newest co-lead and trainee representative, Daniela Massierer.
Daniela Massierer graduated in Physiotherapy at Methodist University Center, Brazil (2007), followed by a Master’s degree (2010) and PhD (2016) in Health Sciences at Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Currently she is postdoctoral fellow at Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) and member of Dr Tania Janaudis-Ferreira Laboratory. She is working on several projects focused on developing and evaluating innovative rehabilitation interventions for solid organ transplant patients (mainly in kidney and lung transplantation). Her main project is named GETONTRAK study – Getting on with your life with a transplanted kidney. The main objective of the project is to develop a web-based program for promotion of physical activity and self-management in kidney transplant recipients.
Since I became a CDTRP member I had the opportunity to increase my knowledge in transplantation and the Canadian Organ Donation Systems as well as put me in an excellent position to connect with other trainees and researchers from across Canada. Additionally, I was able to attend research conferences to disseminate my research to a broader audience of scientists, industry and other stakeholders. In my opinion, the CDTRP trainee program provided me important support not only for academic goals but also for the professional future. Moreover, it helped to develop my career and to build knowledge and partnerships as an independent researcher.
This year I have already been awarded four research awards (CST Research Training Award, QHRN scholarship complement (twice) and McGill MedStar Award). I believe being a member of the CDRTP has given a different weight in my applications.
