University of Guelph – Post-Doctoral Fellow in Molecular Cardiology

The University of Guelph are recruiting for a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Scientist to join Dr. Glen Pyle’s research team.

The successful candidate will undertake a senior role in research programs funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. The research projects available include the development of therapeutic peptides for myocardial infarction, menopausal changes in ischemia-reperfusion injury, ischemic heart failure, and novel estrogen-based therapies. The research includes in vivo and ex vivo animal models of ischemia-reperfusion injury, along with molecular analysis of underlying mechanisms.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic and independent researchers with an interest in molecular cardiology, physiology, and therapeutics. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated research record in cardiovascular physiology, heart disease, or related fields in biomedical sciences. Candidates should have a PhD or be about to complete one shortly. The position will take the lead role in the research program and involves opportunities to work in an interdisciplinary team, and as a member of collaborative projects outside of the lab. Opportunities to present work at national and international meetings are supported, as are teaching opportunities at the University of Guelph.

The successful candidate must have:
  • relevant research experience in cardiovascular disease and molecular biology, including Langendorff perfusion, immunoblotting, histology, and fluorescence microscopy. Experience with echocardiography of animal models (rat or mouse) is an asset.
  • a record of independent research (designing and conducting experiments, analyzing and interpreting original data, and writing manuscripts).
  • high quality original publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, commensurate with career stage, including as a lead author

The successful applicant will be encouraged to apply to extramural funding, but funding is in place to support a 3-year appointment. The expected start date is as soon as possible.
