National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week 2023: April 23-29

The National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week (NOTDAW), the last full week of April, is an opportunity to recognize those who have donated to save others; celebrate those who have received lifesaving transplants; inspire Canadians to learn about organ and tissue donation and talk to their families about their decisions; and encourage people to register their intent to become organ and tissue donors.

This year’s campaign launched by Canadian Blood Services’ Public Education and Awareness Committee (PEAC) is titled ‘Leave Well‘ and speaks to leaving a positive legacy. It speaks to getting organized and makes registering to become an organ donor merely another important to-do list item checked off (easy!). While many organ donation campaigns avoid the ‘leaving’ aspect (ahem… dying), the Leave Well campaign embraces it, calls a spade a spade and invites conversation with positivity.

Choosing to leave well when the time comes means choosing to register to be an organ and tissue donor, and ultimately becoming the kind of human who may help others keep on living when your turn with living is up. It’s a pretty nice way to wrap up this whole adventure, don’t you think?
