Cornea Donation and Transplantation: A National Consensus Forum for Improving Access in Canada

The report captures and summarizes the recommendations, ideas and enthusiasm from the February 9-10, 2020 event in Toronto hosted by Canadian Blood Services (CBS). The report – Cornea Donation and Transplantation: A National Consensus Forum for Improving Access in Canada – is a roadmap and blueprint for how we can collectively improve cornea donation and transplantation and have a significant impact on Canadians who are waiting for the gift of sight. CBS incorporated the feedback we received on this report from the participants, and the planning committee.

Eye and tissue bank representatives, health authority and hospital leadership, transplant ophthalmologists, organ donation organizations, transplant recipients, donor families and several national organizations – including the Canadian Ophthalmological Society, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, the Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program, the Canadian Standards Association – Ocular Technical Committee, Canadian Blood Services, and the Donation Physician Network, came together to identify opportunities and solutions.
