Objective: Support research teams in securing large-scale funding for ambitious, high-impact research projects that will have a concrete impact on the lives of patients, families, and donors and that leverage and continue to invest in the infrastructure of the CDTRP.
Applicants will have access to CDTRP Research Services to support the development of their project. This includes:
- Up to $50,000 in matching funds for the project budget to be used for the direct costs of research (equipment, supplies, salaries, travel, etc.). These funds can be described as committed match funding in the submitted project budget but will be provided only if the large grant proposal is successful.
- Up to $15,000 in CDTRP staff time to support development of the project and grant application, including brokering partnerships and collaboration, strategic planning, writing support, and coordination of administrative elements (e.g., CVs, support letters, and signatures).
- CDTRP staff can assist in applying for a planning grant to increase the funding available for proposal development.
- Up to 20 hours ($1000) of Patient, Family, Donor partner compensation to apply to the development of the grant application.
- Support to work with CDTRP’s partners (foundations, institutions) to assess their interest in pledging additional match funding.

Application and Selection Process
- CDTRP Executive member submits an application and short CV to info@cdtrp.ca. Questions prior to submission can be addressed to Katie Bain at bain@cdtrp.ca.
- The application is free-form, maximum 2 pages that includes the name of the NPA and other confirmed team members, a project overview, statement of the target grant opportunity and anticipated submission deadline, and a list of CDTRP Platforms that would benefit the project.
- In the pilot phase, applications will be reviewed as received, and awards approved to those that meet the eligibility criteria and are felt to have strong potential for success.
- Applications will be approved by a committee of at least 3 individuals appointed by the CDTRP Board, including academic and PFD members not in conflict.
- A representative from relevant partner organizations will be invited to join the committee to assess whether they wish to support the proposal.
- Members of the CDTRP Board are not eligible to be the NPA for Phase 1.
