Dre Sandal a re\u00e7u des fonds pour soutenir son projet d\u00e9crit ci-dessous (anglais) :<\/p>\n

Identifying system-level barriers to living donor kidney transplantation: a comparative case analysis<\/em><\/h4>\n

Patients who have end-stage renal disease need dialysis or a kidney transplant to survive. Kidney transplantation from a living donor is considered to be the best treatment option as it is associated with better longevity for the patient and lower costs to the health care system. Yet, the rates of living donation at several centers in Canada are low and are decreasing despite new initiatives. In addition, there are significant inter-provincial variations. In the provinces of Quebec, Ontario, and British Columbia, <15%, 30-40% and 50-60% of the kidney transplants done annually are from living donors, respectively.<\/em><\/p>\n

Currently, efforts to increase living donation tend to focus on the patient, on teaching and training them how to seek donors. This is not effective for all patients and is thought to have created an unfair system favouring those with the means to find living donors. However, health professional and health-system barriers to living donation have not been well studied. Thus, our objective now is to better understand these barriers so as to inform key priority and research areas by province. In particular, we want to study the unique attributes of a health system with high performance in living donation that can be applied to other health systems with variable rates. Our fundamental goal is to help improve the delivery of health services to those who have end-stage renal disease as per the One-Transplant-For-Life vision of the CDTRP.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00ab Il s’agit d’un projet ambitieux qui n\u00e9cessite la coop\u00e9ration de tous les centres de transplantation du pays. Le PRDTC nous a permis d’avoir une plateforme pour obtenir des r\u00e9sultats pr\u00e9liminaires afin d’aider \u00e0 la demande de subvention. De plus, leur lettre d’appui a aid\u00e9 le processus d’examen des subventions.Un critique a \u00e9crit: \u00ab Le projet est r\u00e9alisable. A d\u00e9j\u00e0 obtenu l’adh\u00e9sion de tous les centres de transplantation au Canada. \u00bb Une fois que nous serons en mesure de reprendre notre activit\u00e9 r\u00e9guli\u00e8re de recherche, nous esp\u00e9rons utiliser plusieurs plateformes du PRDTC pour aider \u00e0 la collecte de donn\u00e9es, \u00e0 l’administration des enqu\u00eates et \u00e0 la diffusion des connaissances. Mes assistants de recherche sont \u00e9galement int\u00e9ress\u00e9s par une carri\u00e8re \u00e0 long terme en transplantation. Ils sont impatients de pr\u00e9senter leurs conclusions lors des prochaines r\u00e9unions et conf\u00e9rences nationales et internationales ainsi que de r\u00e9seauter avec des dirigeants cl\u00e9s afin de promouvoir leurs int\u00e9r\u00eats et leurs aspirations professionnelles. \u00bb – Dre Sandal<\/p>\n<\/div>
