Le projet est une collaboration entre l&rsquo;\u00e9quipe des <strong>Drs<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Stephen Withers<\/strong> (UBC chemist), <strong>Jay Kizhakkedathu<\/strong> (UBC Centre for Blood Research), <strong>Dana Devine<\/strong> (Canadian Blood services and UBC), <strong>Peter Rahfeld<\/strong> (UBC chemistry), <strong>Marcelo Cypel<\/strong> (University Health Network, Toronto transplant surgeon) <strong>Aizhou Wang<\/strong> (UHN Toronto), <strong>Lori West<\/strong> (University of Alberta, transplant surgeon) et le <strong>PRDTC<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Une br\u00e8ve explication du projet se trouve ci-dessous :<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong><em>Improved organ transplant across the ABO barrier through enzymatic removal of antigens<\/em><\/strong>\u201d (<em>Am\u00e9lioration de la transplantation d&rsquo;organes \u00e0 travers la barri\u00e8re ABO gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 l&rsquo;\u00e9limination enzymatique des antig\u00e8nes<\/em>)<\/p>\n<p>Les listes d&rsquo;attente pour les transplantations d&rsquo;organes sont souvent extr\u00eamement longues en raison de la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 d&rsquo;identifier les organes disponibles qui correspondent bien au patient en attente de transplantation. Ce processus de \u00ab mise en correspondance \u00bb consiste \u00e0 identifier les organes qui ont des \u00ab marqueurs \u00bb externes similaires appel\u00e9s antig\u00e8nes, \u00e0 ceux des tissus des patients. Parmi les antig\u00e8nes qui doivent \u00eatre appari\u00e9s, les A, B et O distinguent le groupe sanguin et sont propres \u00e0 chaque individu. Les antig\u00e8nes sur les globules rouges sont en fait des mol\u00e9cules de sucre tr\u00e8s simples. Les globules rouges A, B et O partagent tous une sous-structure commune de sucres, mais les globules rouges A et B diff\u00e8rent les uns des autres en ayant un sucre suppl\u00e9mentaire attach\u00e9 \u00e0 leur surface. Les chercheurs ont r\u00e9cemment d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 un moyen d&rsquo;\u00e9liminer ce sucre suppl\u00e9mentaire \u00e0 l&rsquo;aide d&rsquo;enzymes afin qu&rsquo;ils puissent convertir les globules rouges A ou B en globules rouges de type O. Ils font actuellement des tests avec ce sang de \u00ab type O universel \u00bb ainsi d\u00e9velopp\u00e9. Dans ce projet de recherche, la capacit\u00e9 de ces m\u00eames enzymes \u00e0 \u00e9liminer ces antig\u00e8nes de la surface des organes de donneurs sera test\u00e9e et la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 et l&rsquo;utilisation de ces organes \u00ab modifi\u00e9s \u00bb seront minutieusement test\u00e9es. Si les r\u00e9sultats sont fructueux, cela permettrait aux organes des individus de type sanguin A et B d&rsquo;\u00eatre convertis en organes de type O. Cela am\u00e9liorerait les chances des patients transplant\u00e9s d&rsquo;obtenir des organes correspondants, ce qui augmenterait le taux de survie des patients.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lorsqu&rsquo;on leur demande comment le PRDTC a contribu\u00e9 au succ\u00e8s du projet,\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00ab Un \u00e9l\u00e9ment cl\u00e9 du projet est la coordination assur\u00e9e par le PRDTC.
