Il est actuellement titulaire de la chaire Dr Robert Zhang en recherche translationnelle sur la transplantation \u00e0 Western et directeur m\u00e9dical de la transplantation r\u00e9nale au London Health Sciences Center.\u00a0Le Dr Gunaratnam dirige un programme de recherche fondamentale et translationnelle ax\u00e9 sur les m\u00e9canismes biologiques qui sous-tendent les l\u00e9sions r\u00e9nales aigu\u00ebs, la prolongation de la dur\u00e9e de vie des greffes de rein et les nouveaux traitements du cancer du rein. Son programme de recherche est soutenu par des fonds provenant de plusieurs organismes, notamment les Instituts de recherche en sant\u00e9 du Canada, la Fondation canadienne du rein, le Conseil de recherches en sciences naturelles et en g\u00e9nie du Canada, le gouvernement de l&rsquo;Ontario et la Fondation canadienne pour l&rsquo;innovation.\u00a0 Il occupe plusieurs postes consultatifs et de direction dans des organisations m\u00e9dicales canadiennes, notamment les Instituts de recherche en sant\u00e9 du Canada, la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 canadienne du sang, le R\u00e9seau Trillium pour le don de vie, la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 canadienne de transplantation et l&rsquo;Ontario Medical Association.<\/p>\n<p>Le Dr Gunaratnam a suivi une formation de premier cycle et une formation sup\u00e9rieure en immunologie \u00e0 l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 de Toronto, avant de fr\u00e9quenter la facult\u00e9 de m\u00e9decine de l&rsquo;Universit\u00e9 d&rsquo;Ottawa.
