A mixed-methods design will be employed to examine potential changes in maternal coping styles, distress tolerance, quality of life and perceived social support following the intervention<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW170055575 BCX0\">\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW170055575 BCX0\">a MBSR retreat<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW170055575 BCX0\">.\u00a0 The retreat will be<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW170055575 BCX0\">\u00a0compris<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW170055575 BCX0\">ed<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW170055575 BCX0\">\u00a0of mindfulness exercises such as circle sharing, deep relaxation, yoga and walking meditation.<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW170055575 BCX0\">\u00a0Guided by the experiential expertise of our patient partner, Joanna Mitchell, this research places a strong emphasis on patient- and family-centred care, targeting the intersection of maternal wellbeing and child health\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW170055575 BCX0\">outcomes within pediatric transplantation.\u202f<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW170055575 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Joanna Mitchell&#8217;s b<\/b>io<\/span><\/h5>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload wp-image-13316 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/cdtrp.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Joanna_Mitchell_Bio_Pic-300x300.jpg\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/cdtrp.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Joanna_Mitchell_Bio_Pic-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"206\" height=\"206\" srcset=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%27%20width%3D%27206%27%20height%3D%27206%27%20viewBox%3D%270%200%20206%20206%27%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%27206%27%20height%3D%27206%27%20fill-opacity%3D%220%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/cdtrp.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Joanna_Mitchell_Bio_Pic-66x66.jpg 66w, https:\/\/cdtrp.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Joanna_Mitchell_Bio_Pic-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cdtrp.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Joanna_Mitchell_Bio_Pic-200x200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/cdtrp.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Joanna_Mitchell_Bio_Pic-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdtrp.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Joanna_Mitchell_Bio_Pic-400x400.jpg 400w, https:\/\/cdtrp.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Joanna_Mitchell_Bio_Pic-600x600.jpg 600w, https:\/\/cdtrp.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Joanna_Mitchell_Bio_Pic.jpg 640w\" data-sizes=\"auto\" data-orig-sizes=\"(max-width: 206px) 100vw, 206px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Joanna Mitchell<span data-contrast=\"auto\"> is the mother to 16-year-old Ryley who received a heart transplant at 7 months of age.\u00a0\u00a0Soon\u00a0after Ryley\u2019s transplant, the Mitchell Family\u00a0became involved as volunteers\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0Trillium Gift of Life\u00a0Network\u00a0to encourage others to consider organ donation\u00a0by sharing Ryley\u2019s\u00a0story.\u00a0\u00a0Joanna and Ryley were presented with the TGLN Board of Directors Champion Award in 2017 for their contribution to raising awareness for organ donation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">When Ryley was 5, she participated in her first Canadian Transplant Games and the family became involved with the Canadian Transplant Association.\u00a0\u00a0With the CTA,\u00a0Joanna has helped to organize various events to promote both organ donation and healthy active living after transplantation.\u00a0 Joanna\u00a0has also worked\u00a0as\u00a0a\u00a0parent liaison to bring a pediatric and family perspective to the transplant games.\u00a0 She encourages connections of transplant families by facilitating various social media groups\u00a0and informal mentorship.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Joanna became\u00a0a\u00a0patient caregiver partner\u00a0with\u00a0Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program more recently\u00a0with a focus on projects\u00a0related to\u00a0pediatrics and\u00a0the\u00a0mental health of\u00a0not only the transplant patient but the\u00a0family as a whole.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Samantha J. Anthony<span data-contrast=\"auto\"> is a Health Clinician Scientist in the Child Health Evaluative Sciences Program of the Research Institute at the Hospital for Sick Children. She has nearly 20 years of experience in the\u00a0SickKids\u00a0Transplant and Regenerative\u00a0Medicine Centre\u00a0as a Social Worker and is an Assistant Professor in the\u00a0Factor-Inwentash\u00a0Faculty of Social Work\u00a0at the\u00a0University of Toronto. Dr. Anthony is also an Investigator with the Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Dr. Anthony has been recognized for her dedication to clinical practice and the application of research for improved patient outcomes.\u00a0Her program of research centres on establishing an evidence-based foundation for successful psychosocial adaptation and enhanced quality of life for individuals with chronic disease, with a specific focus on pediatric solid-organ transplantation.
