The research projects available include the development of therapeutic peptides for myocardial infarction, menopausal changes in ischemia-reperfusion injury, ischemic heart failure, and novel estrogen-based therapies. The research includes <i>in vivo <\/i>and <i>ex vivo <\/i>animal models of ischemia-reperfusion injury, along with molecular analysis of underlying mechanisms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Applications are invited from enthusiastic and independent researchers with an interest in molecular cardiology, physiology, and therapeutics. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated research record in cardiovascular physiology, heart disease, or related fields in biomedical sciences. Candidates should have a PhD or be about to complete one shortly. The position will take the lead role in the research program and involves opportunities to work in an interdisciplinary team, and as a member of collaborative projects outside of the lab. Opportunities to present work at national and international meetings are supported, as are teaching opportunities at the University of Guelph.<\/p>\n<h5>The successful candidate must have:<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>relevant research experience in cardiovascular disease and molecular biology, including Langendorff perfusion, immunoblotting, histology, and fluorescence microscopy. Experience with echocardiography of animal models (rat or mouse) is an asset.<\/li>\n<li>a record of independent research (designing and conducting experiments, analyzing and interpreting original data, and writing manuscripts).<\/li>\n<li>high quality original publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals, commensurate with career stage, including as a lead author<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The successful applicant will be encouraged to apply to extramural funding, but funding is in place to support a 3-year appointment.
