As we prepare for our 2026 PFD Research Forum<\/strong><\/a> focusing on Indigenous patient and community engagement, we invite you to take watch Sacred Gift: Based Upon the True Story of Kevin and Craig Settee.<\/em><\/h5>\n
Produced, conceptualized, and funded by Dr. Caroline Tait, Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Health Equity and Inclusion and Professor in the Faculty of Social Work, University of Calgary, and animated Indigenous Story Studio, Canada led CEO Sean Muir (First Nations), this film brings to life the remarkable journey of two First Nations brothers, Kevin and Craig Settee, and their journey with kidney disease and living organ donation.<\/h5>\n
Created as a culturally meaningful resource, Sacred Gift helps open conversations about donation and transplantation within Indigenous communities by exploring the meaning of organ failure and living donation through themes of family, community, culture.<\/h5>\n
Sacred Gift helps address the lack of culturally relevant educational resources about donation and transplantation for Indigenous people. Many Indigenous communities face higher rates of organ failure yet encounter barriers to transplantation and donation conversations. The film helps start these conversations about organ failure, donation, and transplantation.<\/h5>\n
