In honour of <\/span>International Women\u2019s Day<\/span><\/b>, we are proud to celebrate the leadership and impact of <\/span>Drs. Patricia Gongal and Lori West<\/span><\/b>, Executive Director and Scientific Director of the Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program (CDTRP).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Their dedication to advancing donation and transplantation research in Canada continues to shape a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative national research community. Through her leadership, CDTRP has strengthened partnerships across disciplines, and supported groundbreaking research.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, we celebrate their leadership and unwavering dedication to building a stronger, more connected donation and transplantation research ecosystem. This reflects the spirit of this day; honouring women who lead with purpose, resilience, and integrity.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We celebrate the contributions of Drs. Gongal and West, and the many women across our network whose leadership, research, advocacy, and lived experience continue to drive meaningful change in donation and transplantation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>

Dr. Patricia Gongal<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>

<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Dr. Patricia Gongal is Executive Director of the CDTRP based at the University of Alberta. Her scientific interests focus on the implementation and evaluation of collaborative research networks and infrastructure to advance health equity in the field of donation and transplantation, and applied research in communication and knowledge mobilization. She aims to disrupt the reproduction of structural inequities at every step of the research lifecycle, including team building, research prioritization, research execution, and knowledge mobilization.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Dr. Lori West<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>

<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Dr. Lori West is a Professor of Pediatrics, Surgery, Medical Microbiology\/Immunology and Laboratory Medicine\/Pathology at the University of Alberta. A clinician-scientist, Dr. West has longstanding interest and expertise in pediatric heart transplantation and transplant immunology, with a focus on neonatal immune tolerance. Her pioneering work on crossing ABO barriers led to global advancement in infant heart transplantation, and she continues in-depth exploration of ABO-glycoimmunology, especially related to organ transplantation. Dr. West is the past-Director of the Alberta Transplant Institute (2013-2024) and past-President of the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Society of Transplantation and the 2024 Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation.
