New Patient Partner Profile: Amanda Kuhn<\/strong><\/h4>\n

We are happy to welcome to the Canadian Donation and Transplantation Research Program (CDTRP) new members of diverse areas to join our community of researchers, clinicians, patient\/family\/donor partners and trainees who are dedicated to improving the lives of organ donors and recipients. As a new member, people are an essential part of our mission to advance the science of donation and transplantation and develop innovative, evidence-based approaches to improve outcomes for patients in Canada and around the world.<\/p>\n

We are thrilled to have Amanda Kuhn<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>joining CDTRP Patient, Family, and Donor Partnership Platform<\/a>, as a new patient partner. Amanda is a liver transplant recipient and is joining CDTRP Theme 5<\/a> – Restore Long-term Health.<\/p>\n

We have asked Amanda a few questions that you can read below.<\/p>\n<\/div>

What brought you to CDTRP\u2019s Patient, Family, and Donor Research Platform?<\/strong><\/h6>\n

I was initially approached by the CDTRP to participate in Chantal Bemeur’s “What do we know about nutrition and lifestyle to support people living with cirrhosis” as a PFD to share my story of living with cirrhosis and liver transplantation. I look forward to continued participation and sharing my story to connect with others.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
What are your areas of research interest and experience in patient research?<\/strong><\/h6>\n
\n
I am most interesting in the research theme of restoring long term health particularly in exercise and nutrition. I recently competed in the World Transplant Games where it was amazing to see what can be accomplished post-transplant.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
What new areas of interest do you want to explore, and which skills would you like to build on?<\/strong><\/h6>\n

I am also interested in the theme of improving a culture of donation as this is key to me in my role as director of British Columbia for the Canadian Transplant Association.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Tell us a fun fact about yourself!<\/strong><\/h6>\n
\n
I work as a professional forester specializing in reforestation and restoration and one of my greatest achievements was organizing and supervising the reforestation of a wildfire where 10 million trees were planted during the planting season.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>

About the CDTRP Patient, Family, and Donor Partnership Platform<\/strong><\/h5>\n

A strong, central feature of the CDTRP, the Patient, Family and Donor (PFD) Partnership Platform gives patients, caregivers and living donors a voice while offering an environment to collaborate between families, investigators, project leads and CDTRP Themes. Nationwide PFD participation is a research priority in many CDTRP projects, contributing to the transfer of knowledge and positive impact on transplantation and donation in Canada.<\/p>\n
