Transplant AI Symposium \u2013 Team Liver AI Workshop<\/strong><\/h3>\n

CDTRP was pleased to host a workshop for the Team Liver AI – Building the Framework to Tackle the Inequities of Access to and Outcomes for People Needing Liver Transplant in Canada project team on November 18th at the Transplant AI Symposium at the Ajmera Transplant Center.<\/p>\n

The project is funded by the CIHR Team Grants: Embracing Diversity to Achieve Precision and Increase Health Equity program<\/a> and is comprised of a national team of healthcare providers, scientists, and patient partners who are working to make the Canadian liver transplant system fairer and more accessible using cutting-edge research methods in advanced modelling and artificial intelligence (AI). The project includes four interconnected research Aims spanning referral patterns, equitable organ allocation, post-transplant outcomes, and equity-centred national dialogues on AI.<\/p>\n

This workshop brought team members together to build shared understanding, strengthen collaboration, and plan for the project’s start-up phase. The workshop opened with in-person networking over lunch, followed by welcoming remarks from Dr. Mamatha Bhat. Drs. Patricia Gongal and Suze Berkhout provided an in-depth overview of Aim 4 and its integration with Aims 1\u20133, grounding the team in the equity-focused direction of the work.<\/p>\n

Team members engaged in interactive activities, including case studies and the Wheel of Power and Privilege, to build foundational capacity around equity principles and reflect on how social dynamics influence research and care. The session concluded with a series of discussions on the project\u2019s developing Knowledge Mobilization plan, guided by Dr. Patricia Gongal. Together, the group refined preliminary goals, identified priority pathways, and explored the roles and resources needed to advance the Knowledge Mobilization plan.<\/p>\n

This workshop strengthened team alignment, deepened collaborative relationships, and helped establish a clear direction for the next phase of Team Liver AI\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<\/div>
