Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.<\/p>\n<p>The host institution of the CDTRP, the University of Alberta, acknowledges that is located on Treaty 6 territory, a traditional gathering place for diverse Indigenous peoples including the Cree, Blackfoot, M\u00e9tis, Nakota Sioux, Iroquois, Dene, Ojibway\/Saulteaux\/Anishinaabe, Inuit, and many others whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to influence our vibrant community.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div Reconciliation<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, we reaffirm our commitment to continuously reflect on the ongoing impacts of colonialism and the urgent need to advance health equity for First Nations, M\u00e9tis, and Inuit (FNMI) communities through active and intentional partnerships. Reconciliation is not a single act, but an ongoing process rooted in respect, relationship, and shared responsibility.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Through our <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Indigenous Platform<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, CDTRP is dedicating to building relationships <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">with FNMI communities across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. One example of this is Sacred Gift. This animation brings to life the story of two First Nations brothers \u2013 Kevin, a kidney transplant recipient, and his brother Craig, who became his living donor. It was produced, conceptualized, and funded by Dr. Caroline Tait, Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Health Equity and Inclusion and Professor in the Faculty of Social Work, University of Calgary, and animated by Sean Muir <em style=\"font-size: 16px;\">(First Nations,\u00a0<a class=\"ProsemirrorEditor-link\" href=\"https:\/\/istorystudio.com\/\">Indigenous Story Studio, Canada<\/a><\/em>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Now accessible to Cree-speaking communities,\u00a0<\/span><em>Sacred Gift<\/em>\u00a0serves as a culturally-grounded public health educational tool which sparks conversation around living donation and transplantation within indigenous communities.
