Online Survey – A mixed methods study of stakeholders’ perspective on ethical and logistical issues related to advance living donation in kidney transplantation in Canada<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Living donor kidney transplantation is the preferred strategy for end stage renal disease patients. Prior to the launch of the Kidney Paired Donation (KPD) program in Canada in 2009, the living donor had to be compatible with the transplant candidate. KPD circumvents this incompatibility obstacle by matching a donor who is incompatible with their transplant candidate with a different transplant candidate who is also incompatible with their donor. Recently, the US developed an advanced donation program, using or not kidney vouchers. This program allows the living donors to donate at the most appropriate moment for them and ensure that the potential kidney recipient receives a living kidney when he or she will need it. This new type of living donation raises numerous issues and questions.<\/p>\n<\/div>

With colleagues across Canada, Dr. Marie-Chantal Fortin<\/strong>, Transplant Nephrologist at the CHUM, and her team are working in a study about the ethical and logistic issues related to the advanced living donation with or without kidney voucher. You are invited to participate in an online survey<\/strong>. The data results will contribute to the development of advanced living program in Canada. This study is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and The Kidney Foundation of Canada, and has been approved by the CHUM Research Ethics Board.<\/p>\n<\/div>
