As vaccination programs begin rolling out across the country, there remain many unanswered research questions about COVID-19 vaccination in this population, who were excluded from all of the initial clinical trials. Over the last few months, CDTRP has been working to connect, mobilize, and align our community to identify and address these urgent issues.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\" style=\"text-align: center;\">These discussions culminated in a large national research proposal (<a href=\"https:\/\/cdtrp.ca\/en\/prevent-covid\/\">PRospective Evaluation of COVID-19 Vaccine in Transplant Recipients<\/a> (<strong>PREVenT-COVID<\/strong>): A National Strategy) submitted to the <u>COVID-19 Immunity Task Force<\/u> (CITF) for funding. Research teams in Vancouver, Edmonton, London, Toronto, Montreal, and Quebec City, through a collaboration led by Dr. Deepali Kumar (University Health Network) and supported by the CDTRP network infrastructure, proposed a set of immunogenicity studies and a national safety surveillance study in transplant recipients.<\/div>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-separator fusion-full-width-sep\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;margin-top:30px;margin-bottom:30px;width:100%;\"><div class=\"fusion-separator-border sep-double sep-solid\" style=\"--awb-height:20px;--awb-amount:20px;border-color:#e0dede;border-top-width:1px;border-bottom-width:1px;\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><h5 style=\"text-align: center;\">We are delighted to share the news that we have been <strong>awarded funding by the CITF<\/strong> to undertake this work. As the work will move forward very quickly, given the pace of vaccination programs rolling out across the country, we will keep the community regularly informed of progress.<\/h5>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-separator fusion-full-width-sep\" style=\"margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto;margin-top:30px;margin-bottom:30px;width:100%;\"><div class=\"fusion-separator-border sep-double sep-solid\" style=\"--awb-height:20px;--awb-amount:20px;border-color:#e0dede;border-top-width:1px;border-bottom-width:1px;\"><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-sep-clear\"><\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-3\"><p style=\"text-align: center;\">The national safety surveillance study will be conducted in partnership with the\u00a0<u>Canadian National Vaccine Safety (CANVAS)<\/u>. We were delighted to have over 30 stakeholder organizations contribute, including the not-for-profit, government, and health care sectors, as well as public health, patients\/families, and professional societies. The objective of this Forum was to develop an agreement on a national research agenda to address the issues of immunocompromised patients who are at an increased risk of contracting severe COVID-19 disease. We were pleased that over 30 participants attended the Forum who were expert clinicians, scientists, stakeholders, patients, and families. This was the fifth National Forum hosted by CDTRP since 2021, with previous forums influencing the direction of TREAT-COVID and the PREVent-COVID-19 study.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"cvGsUA direction-ltr align-justify para-style-body\"><span class=\"OYPEnA text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">The Forum\u2019s attendees included patients, families, caregivers, health professionals, researchers, and clinicians.
